Endless Summer

I’ve felt so fortunate the last 9 months because Kennedy has been such an easy baby. I kind of hate talking about it because I don’t ever want to sound like I am bragging or Russell and I are expert parents. This is our first so we clearly are just learning as we go, but we’ve really truly lucked out with how chill and what a good sleeper Kennedy has always been. I will probably talk about her sleep schedule in a later post, but Kennedy started sleeping through the night 2 days after we brought her home from the hospital, (I don’t know what kind of magic happened or what we ever did to deserve that).

Kennedy: 2 Piece Ruffled Tank and Bloomer Set

She ALWAYS takes a 2 hour nap in the mornings and that’s when I get most of my work done. One day last week I may have had a little too much coffee to drink or Kennedy was teething and she was basically just refusing to nap.  This was on a day where I felt super motivated and had a million things on my to-do list and of course I couldn’t get anything done with her missing the nap. I tried everything to get her to sleep and nothing was working. I started to stress out about it, which only made Kennedy act worse, so then I decided we were just going to put everything I wanted to do on hold and we would just get out of the apartment. We went over to the beach, I let Kennedy play in the sand and we ate watermelon in the park. It was really refreshing to take a pause and just forget about all of the things I wasn’t able to do earlier. She ended up falling asleep on our way back and I was able to get some things done when we got back home, but moral of the story is I feel sometimes it just makes it worse to stress yourself out. I really think babies can sense your stress and it makes them act out, so anytime I get frustrated when something isn’t going my way, I try to take a time out and clear my mind for even just 5 mins and it always makes things easier.

On a side note, when my sister visited last month she taught me how to fishtail braid and I am obsessed now. I’ve been wearing my hair like this a lot this summer. My hair is naturally super curly, (kind of frizzy curly) so I always have to use heat on it. I’ve been trying to give my hair a break from my blow dryer and curling iron this summer so braids have been my go-to easy style.

Happy Friday!

xo, Sarah
