Looking in my closet, I’ve realized gravitate towards neutrals. All I wear are whites, grays, blacks, and sometimes shades of blue. This summer, I’ve definitely made an effort to add more color to my wardrobe and I’m loving yellow. I usually just go for yellow accents or pops of color here or there, but I instantly fell in love with the sleeves of this top. It was Kennedy’s nap time while we shot this and they were taken back in the beginning of summer when the mornings were a little chilly (hence why she is bundled in the stroller). I also included some more recent photos of Kennedy at the beach (since they fit with the yellow theme). She is still so funny in the sand and is just so amazed/confused when she tries to pick it up and it falls through her fingers. I’m still in denial that it’s the middle of August so we’re going to try to soak up every bit of summer that is left.
I’ve felt so fortunate the last 9 months because Kennedy has been such an easy baby. I kind of hate talking about it because I don’t ever want to sound like I am bragging or Russell and I are expert parents. This is our first so we clearly are just learning as we go, but we’ve really truly lucked out with how chill and what a good sleeper Kennedy has always been. I will probably talk about her sleep schedule in a later post, but Kennedy started sleeping through the night 2 days after we brought her home from the hospital, (I don’t know what kind of magic happened or what we ever did to deserve that).
Happy Tuesday! The weeks have been flying by and I can not believe next week will already be August! I feel like summer just started and although I do love fall, I’m not ready for summer to be over anytime soon. We’ve had a lot going on these last few weekends. I was just looking at our August calendar and we have something planned every weekend. I shouldn’t be complaining (it’s all fun stuff!), but I feel like the weeks fly by so much faster when we have a lot planned. Kennedy is at such a fun age now, she loves exploring and crawling around, but she isn’t fast enough that I have to chase her all over the place. I’ve been trying to make it a point to take her outside a lot more during the day. We always go for a walk with the dogs, but I’m going to try to take her to the playground to swing or have picnic lunches over at the beach more often during the last few weeks of summer. Here are some photos taken before we went to the beach last week.
One of my favorite things about living downtown, other than being so close to everything, is the energy you feel when you walk outside. I usually go for 2-3 walks a day – taking the dogs out after lunch, sometimes if Kennedy is fighting her afternoon nap I’ll stick her the stroller and do a few laps around the block, and then we usually do a family walk when Russell gets home from work. I’m obsessed with my UPPAbaby Vista stroller, but sometimes walking 2 dogs and pushing a stroller by myself can get a little crazy. I have been using the Baby K’tan carrier since Kennedy was a newborn.
TGIF! It actually doesn’t really feel like Friday to me because of the short week from 4th of July. I am loving gingham for summer. This off the shoulder top with bell sleeves is super comfy and looks great untucked or tucked in. Unfortunately, Kennedy’s onesie from Old Navy in the photos is sold out already, so I linked a similar one.
Happy 4th of July! Here are a few photos from this weekend. Saturday we spent all day at the beach and it was the perfect day. It wasn’t too hot and the beach wasn’t super crowded. Kennedy napped on the walk there and played in the sand for hours. Our friends just moved into a brand new apartment a few blocks away from us and we spent a lot of time at their pool. The rest of the weekend we took the dogs for walks or just relaxed. It was the perfect mix of beach/pool activities and just hanging out.
One of our favorite summertime activities is to hang out by the lake on the beaches. Before moving to Chicago, I knew the city was right on Lake Michigan, but I had no idea how awesome the lakefront really is. You step out onto the beach and kind of forget you are in a big city. Pretty much every single weekend since living here, Russell and I have woken up early in the morning on the weekends and taken the dogs over to the lake.
