Even though, I feel like we barely had a fall here in Chicago, one day last week when it wasn’t super cold I took Kennedy to the park. All the colors on the tress were so pretty. Kennedy had so much fun watching the squirrels (which she called doggies, lol). She was obsessed with playing in the leaves, she would just contunuiously pick them up then throw then down. When it was time to go, she cried because she didn’t want to stop playing in the leaves.
I can’t get enough of oversized sweaters right now. Both of our sweaters here are from last winter, but below I linked some similar ones and listed a bunch of our favorites!
Her actual birthday was over a week ago now, but I wanted to share some pics and details from Kennedy’s birthday party. I had so much fun planning and decorating.
From the moment we found out I was pregnant with a girl, I couldn’t wait to throw a super pink birthday party. Kennedy’s absolute favorite food are pickles, its pretty funny how obsessed she is with them. So a few months ago, Russell and I joked we should do a pickle theme birthday party, and the more I thought about it, I realized it would be super cute to combine the 2 ideas and have Princess and Pickles birthday!
Happy Halloween! Quick post with some photos from our pumpkin patch visits this month. We stopped at the stand on Clark/Ontario in the city and then also made a trip out to the suburbs to Sunny Acre Farms. I was really impressed with Sunny Acre Farms. There is so much to do for kids – food stands, rides, games, petting zoo, hay rides, gift shops, and more. They also do a whole Christmas market/tree farm in December and I think we might go to that this winter because I can’t believe how nice they had it setup for Halloween. Kennedy just woke up from a nap so that’s why she is zoning out in some of these photos. haha! She was so obsessed with playing with leaves though, that’s all she wanted to do. Russ carved Kennedy’s first pumpkin for her and I attempted to roast the seeds, but actually got them a little too crispy. We dressed Kennedy and the dogs up in their Lion costumes on Saturday (check out my insta for pics) and went to the little Halloween festival at a park down the street, but it freezing so we didn’t stay long. Overall it was a fun weekend, especially because OSU won and our ‘Nittany Lion tamer’ costumers were worth it. 🙂
I know I said I was ready for cooler temperatures, but wow did it get cold in the city fast! I’m definitely ready for layering sweaters, but I wasn’t prepared to have to bust my winter coat and uggs out yesterday. When I saw this light pink vest in Zara for Kennedy, there was no way I could pass it up. I think I say that about something every time we go in Zara, but they seriously have the cutest stuff for babies! The last few winters I’ve been buying a ton of sweaters from H&M. They aren’t super expensive and I like that a lot of them are already oversized so you don’t usually have to size up. I also got this sweater in gray because I loved it so much.
Happy Fall! It’s finally starting to get cooler and feel like fall in the city now. I really love this jacket from Zara! It’s super lightweight and it can go with almost anything! Lately, I’ve been very into backpacks. I’ve gotten to the point where I realize I don’t need a fully packed diaper bag everytime we leave the apartment. It’s easier to have a smaller bag, and especially since Kennedy is climbing/constantly on the move, it’s nice to have both hands free and I don’t have to worry about a bag falling off my shoulder.
I realized I haven’t posted in a while, but it’s been a busy last 3 weeks for us. It feels like we have been traveling non-stop and I’ve taken this week to finally try to get unpacked and get back into a normal routine. Even though I am so ready to start wearing my sweaters and boots, it’s be hard to do with the weather being in the 70s and 80s. I know I am breaking the “no white after labor day rule,” but I really couldn’t resist on such a nice day over by the lake. Kennedy is getting super close to walking and I was so excited when I saw that Salt Water sandals makes shoes for babies too. They are so comfy and I wore them our whole vacation at the beach. (They run a little large so size down/ the sizing is also sort of strange in general, I think I actually ordered a kids size, even though I wear a size 8 in womens). For this post, I’ll do a 10 things since I have alot to say about life lately.
Even though today is technically the first day of fall, I’m not quite ready to bust out the sweaters and boots just yet (and especially not with this 90 degree Chicago weather!). Since we still have a few hot weekends left, I thought I would share some photos from the beach and some of our favorite baby/kid friendly things we did this summer in the city.
Happy Friday! I’m really looking forward to this long relaxing weekend since we have so much coming up towards the end of Sept/beginning of Oct. It’s so crazy to me how much difference a month makes with babies. Seeing Kennedy’s personality evolve more and more is the best. One day we were sitting there playing peek-a-boo and she grabbed the blanket and started putting it up over her own face. Now anytime she is around a blanket or towel she grabs it and wants to start playing peek-a-boo all on her own. It’s really fun to see her pick up on things. Kennedy also started to get SUPER excited to see the dogs. Anytime we are out at the store and come back home, (or anytime she doesn’t see the dogs for more than like 15 mins) when she sees them again she will scream excitedly, almost at the top of her lungs. It’s too cute! As much as I don’t want summer to end, I am starting to get excited to wear boots and sweaters soon. Even though we aren’t matching here, I featured a few matching outfits that will be good to transition into fall.
A few posts back I said I wanted to make an effort to spend more time outside and really enjoy summer before it ends. Now that Kennedy is always on the move, it’s increasingly getting harder to keep the apartment in order. Some days I feel like all I do is pick up her little blocks she loves to scatter seriously all over the apartment. It’s really nice to sometimes just forget about my to-do list for a little bit and get some fresh air. There is a really cute area just a few blocks west of us. We walk past the most amazing town homes and there is a really nice park with a playground at the end of the street. Kennedy likes the swings, but most of the time she gets so distracted and loves watching all the other kids run around and play. I’m also trying to really enjoy living downtown. We aren’t planning on moving anytime soon, but possibly in the next year or two we may want to move a little further north towards Lincoln Park to get a little more space. I know once we move out of downtown we won’t be coming back so right now I love summers in the city and being able to walk everywhere. I know I will miss this someday.
Looking in my closet, I’ve realized gravitate towards neutrals. All I wear are whites, grays, blacks, and sometimes shades of blue. This summer, I’ve definitely made an effort to add more color to my wardrobe and I’m loving yellow. I usually just go for yellow accents or pops of color here or there, but I instantly fell in love with the sleeves of this top. It was Kennedy’s nap time while we shot this and they were taken back in the beginning of summer when the mornings were a little chilly (hence why she is bundled in the stroller). I also included some more recent photos of Kennedy at the beach (since they fit with the yellow theme). She is still so funny in the sand and is just so amazed/confused when she tries to pick it up and it falls through her fingers. I’m still in denial that it’s the middle of August so we’re going to try to soak up every bit of summer that is left.
