Fall in the City

Photo-Oct-25,-5-50-02-PM_feature.jpg

Playing catch up with a few of these posts because I just love the images too much. Fall in the city is one of my favorite times. Although there aren’t a ton of trees in the city obviously, I just love walking through a few of the parks we go to and seeing how pretty the leaves look.

Surviving the Chicago Winters

IMG_7107_F

I have a love-hate relationship with the weather in Chicago from Jan-March. It’s so so cold, which makes me not want to ever go outside. Part of me loves being super lazy and enjoying more down time, but after a while I start to get major cabin fever. Below are a few of our tips for staying warm in Chibera.

Christmas Time in the City

IMG_6415

I’m so excited Christmas vacation officially starts today and I wanted to share some photos we took last weekend walking around the city. I love seeing the gorgeous townhomes all decorated┬á for the holidays. All the lights and decorations throughout the city make the Chicago winters semi-tolerable. I can’t wait to spend some quality time with my family and see Kennedy open presents this weekend! Wishing you all a very merry Christmas surrounded by the ones you love most!

O Christmas Tree

IMG_6262

We went and got our Christmas tree on Sunday! Growing up, my family always had real trees, I’ve never had a fake one. It’s a nice family tradition to go pick out a tree every year, and I feel like candles just can’t compare to the smell of a fresh tree. People always ask us where do you even get trees in the city, but there are actually a bunch of parking lots they turn into “tree farms” or there are websites you can get them delivered. Last year we actually got our tree from Whole Foods and this year we went to the lot right by the Hard Rock Cafe on Clark/Ontario. They had a big selection and a variety of sizes. I love the tree we picked out.
Kennedy and I wore our matching beanies again and I can’t get over how cute her little Ugg boots are with the bows in the back. For winters in Chicago, Hunter Boots are a must for me. I remember the 2nd time Russell and I visited Chicago, it was a freezing March weekend and the streets were so slushy that I ruined the winter boots I had on. My feet were totally soaked so we went in Nordstrom and that is when I got my first pair of Hunters. These fleece liners keep your feet so warm and I’ll never walk through the city when it’s snowing out in anything else. Below are our outfit details and link.

Cozy in Camel

TGIF and happy December! I’m super excited to do so many holiday traditions with Kennedy this month. I actually bought Kennedy this coat when I was pregnant with her last fall and I couldn’t wait for her to grow into it (they restocked it for this year here). Below I’m sharing some other matching coat options that are perfect for winter.

Cold Weather Accessories

I still can’t believe Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is less than a month away now! There’s so many fun holiday things around the city that I’m excited to do with Kennedy this year. Going to get hot cocoa at the Christkindlmarket, taking her to see Santa, and the Lincoln Park zoo lights are at the top of the list. After living in the city a few years now, I know that a warm hat and gloves are a must, especially walking around in the evenings after the sun goes down. I’ve been on the hunt for some matching beanies for Kennedy and I. These hats from Amazon are so cute and I couldn’t believe how inexpensive the set is! I featured some pictures of us in the black ones, but also may have ordered them in a few other colors because I liked them so much čÖé
Below I put together some of our other favorite matching options from various sites.

Sweater Weather

Sarah-Gray-11-7-17-(44)

Even though, I feel like we barely had a fall here in Chicago, one day last week when it wasn’t super cold I took Kennedy to the park. All the colors on the tress were so pretty. Kennedy had so much fun watching the squirrels (which she called doggies, lol). She was obsessed with playing in the leaves, she would just contunuiously pick them up then throw then down. When it was time to go, she cried because she didn’t want to stop playing in the leaves.
I can’t get enough of oversized sweaters right now. Both of our sweaters here are from last winter, but below I linked some similar ones and listed a bunch of our favorites!

Pumpkin Patch

IMG_5342

Happy Halloween! Quick post with some photos from our pumpkin patch visits this month. We stopped at the stand on Clark/Ontario in the city and then also made a trip out to the suburbs to Sunny Acre Farms. I was really impressed with Sunny Acre Farms. There is so much to do for kids – food stands, rides, games, petting zoo, hay rides, gift shops, and more. They also do a whole Christmas market/tree farm in December and I think we might go to that this winter because I can’t believe how nice they had it setup for Halloween.┬áKennedy just woke up from a nap so that’s why she is zoning out in some of these photos. haha! She was so obsessed with playing with leaves though, that’s all she wanted to do. Russ carved Kennedy’s first pumpkin for her and I attempted to roast the seeds, but actually got them a little too crispy. We dressed Kennedy and the dogs up in their Lion costumes on Saturday (check out my insta for pics) and went to the little Halloween festival at a park down the street, but it freezing so we didn’t stay long. Overall it was a fun weekend, especially because OSU won and our ‘Nittany Lion tamer’ costumers were worth it. čÖé

Yellow

Sarah-Gray-yellow5

Looking in my closet, I’ve realized gravitate towards neutrals. All I wear are whites, grays, blacks, and sometimes shades of blue. This summer, I’ve definitely made an effort to add more color to my wardrobe and I’m loving yellow. I usually just go for yellow accents or pops of color here or there, but I instantly fell in love with the sleeves of this top. It was Kennedy’s nap time while we shot this and they were taken back in the beginning of summer when the mornings were a little chilly (hence why she is bundled in the stroller). I also included some more recent photos of Kennedy at the beach (since they fit with the yellow theme). She is still so funny in the sand and is just so amazed/confused when she tries to pick it up and it falls through her fingers. I’m still in denial that it’s the middle of August so we’re going to try to soak up every bit of summer that is left.

Flamingos

Sarah-Gray-(81)_f

Happy Tuesday! The weeks have been flying by and I can not believe next week will already be August! I feel like summer just started and although I do love fall, I’m not ready for summer to be over anytime soon. We’ve had a lot going on these last few weekends. I was just looking at our August calendar and we have something planned every weekend. I shouldn’t be complaining (it’s all fun stuff!), but I feel like the weeks fly by so much faster when we have a lot planned. Kennedy is at such a fun age now, she loves exploring and crawling around, but she isn’t fast enough that I have to chase her all over the place. I’ve been trying to make it a point to take her outside a lot more during the day. We always go for a walk with the dogs, but I’m going to try to take her to the playground to swing or have picnic lunches over at the beach more often during the last few weeks of summer. Here are some photos taken before we went to the beach last week.
